Everything You Want Is On The Other Side of Fear
Sunday, October 23, 2016
George Addair said, "Everythig you want is on the other side of fear." I love that, because it is a tool.
If we face our fear; if we counter it - we start a shift. The action might just be finding the fear, and letting it go. Sometimes that in itself is a life-changer.
Countering fear might be making a change. It might be a pivot point. It could be a little thing - but it could be huge, too. Counterfear scales, just like fear. It’s about envisioning a different way of being. For you. For your family. For your relationships. For your office; your business. For your community. For the world.
Yes, that’s a whole lot of idealism. I would argue that we need it. We might be in a bit of a vision shortage, and a fear surplus.
We’re in an election period in the US where most of the candidates leveraged fear through the entire primary process. The media goes along with it, and social media amplifies it further. It is not helpful. Yet, fear mobilizes.
This year it will be 15 years since 9/11, and we’ve got the continuing and evolving threat of terrorism. Many of us have the economy on our minds, or our own personal financial state. Climate change is happening, whether we want it to or not. We’ve got a growing world population, living mostly in high-hazard zones: disasters will increase. Active shooters will surface. We’re going to have disease and cancer and allergies and war. And traffic. And weather. And people we don’t agree with.
Fear Vs. Vision
The question I have asked over and over is this: what is the vision that YOU want for the future? Do you have one? Do you have a bunch?
For what it's worth, I want a vision. I want a whole lot of visions, actually. I want pro-active. I want ideas. I want resonance. I want problem-solving. I want shiny stuff. I want glitter, and sparkle, and hope, and I want the confidence to know we can get there.
I don't want fear. Fear is the opposite of light. It's the absence of it. That's not what I want in my future. My guess is that it isn't what you want, either... for you or for your people.
We find the other side of fear when we find light. We find light in love. In ideas. In sparkle. In potential. Sometimes we have to face the fear to get there - to the other side.
Sometimes we do have to walk through some fire to get there. But fire is made of light.
