Unexpected Lessons From The Life Coach Who Ran For President

So this happened today.

It is part of my mission this year to support the Democratic nominee for president. As such, I've been keeping my opinions on each to myself. Except on this one. I am very relieved to see Ms. Williamson drop from the US presidential race.

Her running has served as an eye-opener for many. I'm not going to list all of the things. I will say that I have dropped several connections from the love-and-light crowd who have blindly and stubbornly defended some of Williamson's actions, which have shown bias and a refusal to learn. Probably most of us carry some kind of bias. Especially the most pale of us. If you're not willing to listen and learn though, how can you lead?

Watching Williamson interact and react to many online and to people I've met has been educational. Sometimes it's most educational to watch people and recognize that you don't want to do what they do. Ms. Williamson has become one of those people for me.

I'm still in the love and light crowd. I'm all about the love and light stuff. But it can't come at the cost of reality. And hard work learning and growing and evolving. You can't truly find love and light if you're not willing to See the challenges and the reality that humanity brings.

This life stuff is not for the faint of heart. True strength is in vulnerability, hard truth, in willingly navigating uncomfortable spaces, and in learning from your mistakes. I've got a long way to go. There are beacons out there. So often they show us the path. Sometimes they show us the path we can avoid.

If we're paying close attention, we all move forward. If Williamson hadn't run, there's a bunch of stuff I wouldn't have learned. Don't know that that means I'm grateful that she ran. I am grateful that I've learned.

More to come.
