We have yellow clouds and light in Iowa today, and I have been avoiding verifying the reason all day. I try to stay out of wildland fire news because it is something I miss so much. However, there is a lot going on in wildland fire right now so I am sharing a link for folks looking for more information.

And yes: the yellow light in Iowa today is due to wildfire smoke, confirmed via satellite imagery.

Wildland fire coordination occurs out of Boise, Idaho at the National Interagency Coordination Center (NICC), located at NIFC. This link has a number of intelligence resources nationally, and you can go to each geographic area via the GACC map for similar pages targeted to that geographic area.

The Incident Management Situation Report (IMSR) for today indicates that we are Preparedness Level 5 nationally, and a number of Geographic Areas are also at PL 5 or 4. Five is the highest level. High-level support to the Texas hurricane is noted under the Southern area report on the IMSR.
